The update notes mention just two workspace roles: Viewers and Content Editors. They do not cover Editors, explain how work on a branch gets into your main project, or specify which plans include the update. This post explains the roles and branch steps using Framer's help pages and clearly notes where the update notes say nothing about plans.
What is new
- The Agent can handle a whole workflow in one program and start work while the model is still writing, so changes show up sooner.
- Framer reports 2x fewer tool steps and 39% fewer cached input tokens per message.
- The listed abilities cover components, CMS sorting, form recipients and webhooks, branches, project styles, code and SVGs.
- Outside agents that connect through MCP get the same capabilities.

What the two figures mean for your bill
A harness sits between the AI model and your project. Framer says the new approach uses 2x fewer tool steps and 39% fewer cached input tokens per message. In simpler terms, each message sends less model input, and Framer's technical post links the update to cost, saying it can be up to 33% cheaper and 20% faster. These are Framer's figures, and up to is important because results depend on the task.

Cost remains relevant because Agent chat uses AI credits. Framer's help page says a Free plan workspace without an active subscription receives 500 credits to try Agents. The page does not say those 500 credits come with Harness 2, so consider them part of general Agent pricing.

Who can use the Agent to change your project
You can open the Agent from its entry in the Properties panel on the right, but your workspace role determines what it can do. The Harness 2 update says Viewers can ask the Agent questions, but cannot use it to edit CMS content or the project. Content Editors can ask the Agent and use it to edit and undo CMS changes, but cannot change project design or development features.

Framer's members help page says Editors have full editing access to projects and site content. That means Editors can ask the Agent, edit CMS content and make changes to projects. Admins can do the same with the Agent, and Framer says admins can manage projects. Before inviting a freelancer or handing a blog to a client, check this list.

How branch work reaches your main project
The Agent can now create, switch, rename, join, leave and delete branches. Joining means entering or switching to a branch to work on it, while leaving means exiting it. Neither action merges changes. Framer's help page says changes remain in the branch until someone reviews and applies them.

To move branch changes into main, open the branch, choose Review Changes, review Framer's list of changes, called the diff, and click Apply. Applying the changes updates main but does not publish the site, so publish main separately to make them live. The update notes do not explain this step, which determines whether visitors see any changes.

What MCP means if you use an outside AI tool
MCP lets an outside AI tool communicate with Framer. Framer says any AI client that supports remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers and OAuth can connect. In plain terms, the AI tool needs to support connecting to a remote MCP server and signing in with OAuth, so check the tool's setup guide. Framer gives Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Pi, Windsurf, Warp and Grok as examples. Connected agents can create pages, change layouts and content, and manage CMS collections, with changes remaining editable in Framer.

Framer's external agents article recommends MCP for new connections and distinguishes it from the older local @framer/agent bridge. The technical post says outside agents previously ran on their own execution systems and made repeated requests through Framer's servers. Harness 2 gives them the tools of the in app Agent, allowing them to submit one program that runs in Framer with synchronous access to the local document. The update page does not use or explain this term, so a plain reading is that the program works on the open document as it runs.

A note for developers: the technical post says the new method's tree.insert() and tree.patch() calls replace the earlier INSERT and PATCH write commands. If you work only in the visual editor, you will not encounter either one.

What the official notes do not say
- The Harness 2 pages do not say which plans or Framer versions receive the update, or on what date each account gets access.
- They do not state a separate price, a usage cap or a limit on task or document size for Harness 2.
- The notes do not say which of the listed abilities the Agent lacked before November 2, 2026, so they cannot be read as a list of what is new.
- The update page gives the 2x and 39% figures without saying how they were measured.
How it helps: a freelancer who builds sites for local shops and has the Editor or Admin role in the client's workspace
The task. Configure form email recipients and CMS sorting for a client, but leave the main project untouched until the work has been checked.
- Open the client's project and select Agent in the Properties panel on the right.
- Ask the Agent to create a branch for the new work and switch into it.
- Ask the Agent to configure sorting on the news collection by status and creation date, and to set custom email recipients and a webhook destination on the contact form.
- Open the branch, select Review Changes and check the list of changes Framer shows.
- Click Apply to bring the changes into main, then publish main to make them live.
The result. The update lists branching, CMS sorting, and form settings as Agent capabilities. Framer's branch help page describes the review, apply, and publish steps. The notes do not specify the credit cost, so check your balance first.

Other ways to use it
You can ask the Agent to edit CMS content and undo those changes, but design and development features remain unavailable. A Viewer on the same project can only ask questions.
