Websites without code, explained by someone who builds them

nvudev is written by Alex Collins, who has built websites for non-technical clients since 2013.

What nvudev is

nvudev is a practical guide to building websites without writing code.

It covers the tools people actually use to get a site online: WordPress page builders, hosted website builders such as Wix and Webflow, and AI tools that can build a site from a short brief. The guides are written in plain language for readers who are not developers and are based on tools Alex has built client sites with.

Who is behind it

Alex Collins

Alex Collins, founder and editor. Economics and Marketing graduate of the University of La Verne, building websites since 2013.

Alex could not find a solid work-from-home job after university in 2013, so instead of waiting for one, Alex opened a company offering web development, web design and marketing. The web development side stuck. Client after client needed a site they could run on their own, so every project had to be built with tools that people who are not technical can use. That meant working with all kinds of builders, and that first-hand experience is what nvudev is built on.

Alex still builds websites for a few clients under the Alex Collins name, but it is a small affair these days. nvudev exists for two reasons: to share that knowledge of site builders with the people they were made for, and to keep it sharp through research and writing. Read Alex's story.

Why the name nvudev

This address was once home to Nvu, the free web editor that let anyone build a web page without touching HTML. More than a decade after its last release, the tools have changed completely, but the mission is the same: anyone should be able to put a good website online without learning to code. The original Nvu pages and user guide are kept in the Nvu archive.

How this site will make money

The goal is a self-sufficient website that pays its own running costs through Google ads.

The ads will not switch on straight away. Before that happens, the site needs to reach at least 10,000 readers a month. Until then, nvudev runs without ads.

  2. 210,000 readers a monthThe audience the site needs before ads make sense.
  3. 3Google adsAds pay the running costs, so the site funds itself.
